Housing Information
Housing is not guaranteed. Be aware that the standard rental contract for housing accommodations is nine months (or until the end of the academic year for students arriving in January). Students leaving their housing before the end of the agreement may be subject to a cancellation fee.
California Housing
Board (Non–UC Housing)
The California Housing Board provides a forum for all Education Abroad Program participants to share information about housing for rent and housing situations wanted in California. Students are encouraged to post messages about housing sublets, shared housing situations, rooms for rent, and rentals.

Students attending through the end of the academic-year

Application
You must have a Student ID (i.e., 860-xxx-xxx) to apply for housing. Once you are admitted, a Student ID (SID) number will be sent to you by the UCR campus or UOEAP.
Application Deadline: Apply as soon as you receive your ID number.
Application Fee Required: None
Deposit Required: $200 security deposit and advanced payment of first month's rent is required when a housing contract is signed.
Method of Payment Options: International money order, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card accepted.
Notification of Housing Assignments: Once students are placed in Campus Apartments Housing sends E-Mail notification to student to sign contract on-line. Housing contracts are submitted on-line and students are given the ability to print their Contract and Notice of Assignment. Students are encouraged to contact the housing office regularly via phone or e-mail to check their status.

Application Instructions: Application is for the International Residence Center only. A Student ID number is required for application. Identify yourself as an EAP Reciprocity student.
Application Deadline: As early as possible. Students are encouraged to send their application forms by fax to the fax number above, and confirm their status by e-mail.
Application Fee Required: $70 (non-refundable). May be paid upon arrival at UCR.
Deposit Required: $100 damage deposit for International Residence Center payable after arrival to UCR
Method of Payment Options: International money order, cash, travelers check, or Visa/MasterCard accepted.
Notification of Housing Assignments: Sent by e-mail. Students
may sign the housing contract upon arrival at the International Residence
Center.
Note: Airport pick-up is not available for EAP students.

Tips on Finding Housing

Suggested Arrival Date: September 13, 2009
You may arrive no more than 30 days prior to the start of your academic program. Program dates are printed on your visa certificate of eligibility. Students who do not have pre-arranged housing are advised to arrive as early as possible.

Take the following documents to the orientation
(copy them AFTER you have entered the U.S.):A completed International
Student Personal Record Form. Original documents plus one
legible photocopy of:
1. Your passport picture page with valid dates.
2. Your visa
3. I-94 card-front and back (usually the white card stapled in your
passport).
4. Your UCR I-20/DS-2019 (if applicable).
5. If you attended school in the United States before being admitted
to UCR, bring a copy of your previous school's I-20/DS-2019.
6. A small passport size photograph of yourself.
7. Your local contact information and emergency contact information.
8. If you have an F-2/J-2 dependent, you will also need to bring copies
of their pertinent information (I-20, DS-2019, passport, visa and I-94
card).

About UCR ID numbers
Business Administration Students: You must meet with your UCR advisor, prior to registration for classes.
The registration system might require proof of completion of a prerequisite for registration in certain courses. Students who have completed coursework at their home university equivalent to the prerequisite course(s) required should contact their major advisor by e-mail for authorization to enroll in the course.
Graduate students: Graduate students usually register after arrival and after consultation with the department’s graduate advisor. Check with your host department for registration advising.

Health Insurance
2009-10 costs and information are listed below.
Requirement: Students are automatically enrolled in
the University’s Student Health Insurance Plan unless they complete
a waiver form that provides proof of equivalent coverage, and it is
approved.
Cost: Undergraduates: $211 per quarter; Graduates $603 per
quarter.
Billing: Each quarter
Payment Deadline: Reciprocity students may pay as soon as they arrive on campus.

Health Forms Deadline: A hold will be
placed on your course enrollment if forms are not received by the required
date.

To receive a waiver, your plan must have coverage comparable to the UC plan, and be from a recognized company that has a claims office operated in the United States. Foreign insurance plans with U.S. affiliates/representatives, travel insurance plans and reimbursement programs do not qualify.
