EAP is Affordable!
The cost of study on EAP can be close to the cost of studying on campus and is typically far less than the cost of non-UC study abroad programs.
At most sites students are personally responsible for making monthly payments for rent and utilities. In addition, there are costs for food, local transportation, school supplies, excursions, etc. Estimated expenses for each program are provided on each program's summary page.
Extended Payment Plan
Similar to the DPP on your home UC Campus, the Extended Payment Plan is designed to give students an opportunity to pay their EAP program fees over an extended period of time. There is no interest charge because the Extended Payment Plan is not a loan. Students who owe EAP money or have a history of payment difficulty may be denied an Extended Payment Plan. Students who wish to sign up for an Extended Payment Plan must contact the Student Finance unit at studentfinance@eap.ucop.edu.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
UC financial aid applies towards study abroad on EAP. Even if you have not been eligible for financial aid in the past, consult with your campus advisers—you might be eligible for financial aid while on EAP. All EAP students, regardless of income level, are encouraged to apply for financial aid. See the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and check for applicable deadlines.
- Students who do not currently receive UC financial support may qualify for aid
while on EAP - Students who receive UC financial aid continue to receive grants, loans, and scholarships while abroad
- EAP students are eligible for special grants and scholarships from UC, the host country, and other sources
- Each year over $1 million in need-based scholarships are awarded to EAP students
- EAP awards typically range between $1,500 and $4,000 and vary by program and participant's financial situation
