France: Immersion Program, University of BordeauxHost InstitutionUniversity of Bordeaux (University web sites) HighlightsEAP students may study for the spring or academic year and take regular university courses at the four Bordeaux universities. Most EAP students take courses at Bordeaux III, which specializes in the arts and social sciences. All instruction is in French. Qualified fall students can extend their participation to the year program in Bordeaux. Academic FocusFall: Regular university courses. Course work is only appropriate for social science majors and others interested in receiving social science credit. Spring and Year: Regular university courses. Due to calendar issues, courses in political science are not available to students in the spring program. Students attend classes with international students, host country students, and UC students. Language of InstructionFrench Language StudyFall and Year: Program begins with a two-week French intensive language program (ILP). Students take a language test upon arrival that determines the level of classes permitted during the first semester. Those who place in the two lowest levels must take a French language class. Spring: Program begins with a one-week intensive language program (ILP) at the DEFLE, Bordeaux’s institute of foreign language study. This program includes an introduction to French academic culture and an extensive writing project. UnitsStudents are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad. ILP: 3 to 6 UC quarter units are required Term: 18 UC quarter units are required HousingYear students live in private homes, apartments, or studios with international students, host country students, or UC students. Fall students may live in homestays, private homes, apartments, or studios. During the ILP, year and fall students live in dormitories.
