China: Intensive Language Program, Beijing Normal University

Highlights

The Beijing summer Intensive Language Program is held at BNU, located north of the old city walls, midway between Peking University and Tiananmen Square, with easy access by subway or taxi to the city center. Classes focus on conversation, listening, reading, and writing. Tutors provide individual or group tutoring. Cultural activities and excursions supplement the classes. (details)

Duration

Summer: late June to mid-August (calendar)

Space permitting, students are encouraged to apply to extend their participation to the fall program at BNU or the year program at either Peking University or BNU. (Sophomores may extend to the BNU fall program only.) Extension to a fall program at East China Normal University for continued language study may be possible. Extension to the UC-Fudan University Joint Program in International Studies (JPIS) is not permitted.

Academic Focus

Chinese language; intensive written and conversational courses at several levels of intermediate and advanced Chinese. See the Course Finder for courses previously taken by EAP students.

Students attend classes with UC students only.

Standard Chinese (simplified characters)

Language Study

Students take only language classes during the summer.

Units

Students are required to take a full-time course of study while abroad; 12 UC quarter units are required.

Housing

EAP students share double rooms with other UC students in a foreign student dormitory at BNU. (details)
