Study Abroad Scholarships for UCEAP: Applications Now Open for Spring Programs
DATE: 7/6/2012

Applications for the UCEAP $500K Scholarship Initiative are now open for 2012-13 spring semester and Southern Hemisphere year programs.

Santa Barbara, CA—The University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) has announced that over $120,000 in scholarships is available for 2012-13 spring semester and Southern Hemisphere year programs. Applications must be received by August 10, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. (PDT).

Study abroad scholarships are available for students of all backgrounds and majors, and for all kinds of study abroad programs. Typical awards are $2,000 for quarter/semester programs and $3,000 for year programs. A single online application is all students need to be considered for multiple UCEAP scholarships. Applications must include a statement of purpose, a transcript, and a letter of recommendation to be considered for an award.

A visit to the UCEAP scholarships page is the first step for students interested in applying. In addition, UCEAP’s scholarship FAQs provide detailed answers to questions applicants may have about scholarships and the application process.

“The cost of UCEAP participation is typically far less than the cost of non-UC study abroad programs and, in many locations, is comparable to the cost of study on a UC campus,” says Jean-Xavier Guinard, Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director of UCEAP.  “Yet the need for financial aid and scholarship opportunities remains critical to student participation in study abroad. So I urge students to apply now and take advantage of this opportunity to receive significant scholarship funding for an amazing study abroad experience.”

These scholarships are part of UCEAP's $500K Scholarship Initiative. In May, UCEAP announced scholarship awards for students going abroad on fall programs. A portion of available funds was reserved for spring programs and students are invited to apply for these awards now.
